On the plane home from our worship service in Charlotte, NC I realized that over 600 individuals gave their lives to the Lord. Then the word "personal" came up in my spirit- a personal decision to have a commitment with the Lord. How do you continue having a personal relationship with the Lord? Just like a new friend, it starts with a conversation. So I figured that’s how I should start the relationship with the Lord. Just talk to Him like your talking to your best friend.
“No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15
This starts the process. We are talking about relationship. So let’s say you need a favor, who would you call? A best friend right? Let’s say it’s a ride to the Airport,
We have known this friend for many years, spending time weekly or even several times daily. We know everything about each other and have built a trust, so we make the call and know they will help. How confidently will you be if you have the same relationship with the Lord? You will expect an answer that is the best for your life. Let’s say you called someone you never talk to before. They would probably say I don’t know who you are! So if you never or seldom have a conversation with the Lord, you may be thinking you will get the same response.
“… I never knew you…” Matthew 7:23
How confident are you going to feel about your prayer being answered?
If I am going to pray for you, I want to be confident that my relationship with the Lord is so personal that I know my prayer will be answered .When we ask the Lord, we need to be patient to wait for a response . So many times I have asked, but got busy trying to figure it out another way. It would be like waiting for a friend to give you a response and leaving the phone and going into another room and getting on the computer looking for another way to the Airport and missing the answer. So when you pray, just spend time with the Lord
Make sure you wait for the answer, because it will be more assuring then any answer you will find yourself or from anyone else. He at times will not give you the answer you were looking for, but you can be sure it will be the best thing for you. Would a friend take you to the airport if he knew there was a terrorist their? So sometimes when you’re waiting for God to answer maybe He is protecting you from something, So start with a conversation today, then ask, wait and know that the response will be what is best for you. Along the way just like a friend we let Him know we love Him Praise Him for all He has done. Jesus by his example never did anything unless He went to the Father.
“I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.” John 12:50
So, wouldn’t it make sense to do the same? Start a conversation with the Lord right now! And as you develop that relationship, you can be confident that conversation back to you will be what is best for the situation at hand. The next time you spend time with someone you love, challenge yourself to spend that amount of time with the Lord. Remember He gave his only son Jesus to die for us, so we can have an eternal relationship with Him. Start now by letting Him know how much we love Him. It’s just a conversation a better way to pray!
"For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus..." 1 Timothy 2:5
